Dr. Ashanti Coleman is a doctoral-prepared board-certified family nurse practitioner. She fell in love with nursing from learning about the body and how it works and finding ways to improve patients' health holistically. She began her healthcare career as a unit secretary in the Emergency Room NICU in Illinois, then started nursing school and working as a nurse extern in a Neuro Stroke Unit in Memphis,Tennessee .
After graduating from the University of Memphis Loewenberg College of Nursing in 2012, she started her nursing career in the Emergency Department in Detroit, Michigan. As a registered nurse, she has gained experience in Dialysis, Urgent Care, Pediatrics, Employee Health, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and Pain Management. Her love for healthcare and nursing did not stop there as she returned to school to obtain her Master of Nursing from Walden University, graduating in 2016 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. As FNP, she has gained experience in pediatrics, retail health clinics, telehealth, IV hydration, weight loss, worker's compensation /injury clinic, COVID mobile sites, and most recently, as a professor at her alma mater University of Memphis. Dr. Coleman is a two-time stroke survivor, which encouraged her to return to school to obtain her doctorate in nursing from Abilene Christian University in 2020.
She used her health scare to perform research titled Stroke Prevention in African American Women ages 20-40 using oral contraceptives. Dr. Coleman is also a two-time Stroke Survivor advocate and supporter of the local Mid-South American Heart Association. Dr. Coleman is also a certified Yoga Instructor who teaches a unique form of yoga & CBD for relaxation, stress, and pain relief at Your CBD Store in Collierville .
In addition to her love for yoga, she is CEO of a Women's clothing line called 929 Apparel (https://www.929apparel.com) offers unique, affordable athletic apparel in sizes S-3x. In her spare time, she loves shopping, traveling, worshipping, and assisting with events at her church, Hope Fellowship Church, and spending time with her husband of 23 years and two children (a 19-year-old daughter and a 15 1/2-year-old son), cheering them on in their sporting events.
